The W.E.B Dubois Learning Center

The W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center evolved from the union of a Mathematics Program sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and a Reading program sponsored by theYouth Fellowship Board of the Paseo United Methodist Church. In 1973, these two programs joined together to form the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center.

Through the efforts of a few volunteers, the Learning Center opened in the Fall of 1973 serving a small number of students; it now serves over 400 students per year. The volunteer staff consist of certified teachers, medical personnel, accountants, engineers, mathematicians, computer programmers, chemists and business personnel.

Students attending the Learning Center are referred by parents, teachers and other school officials. Enrollment data indicates 85% of the students participating in program activities at the Learning Center attend the Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools.
